This was my first time using Prestige. I noticed their truck on the road and there was enough info as to what they do printed on the truck to satisfy what was looking for. I called and they sent a very nice gentleman (owner) and we discussed my repair job and came to a reasonable price. Was told 2- 4 weeks and they were ready within that promised time. They called and we agreed to a time and day to do the job. Their men were very respectful of my house and property and did the job quickly and neatly to my 100% satisfaction. I definitely will call them again for my window and door work in the future!

Window & Door Mechanism Repair

A window that won't open, a lock that won't engage, or a handle that spins uselessly in your hand — these are not minor inconveniences. A window that can't be secured properly is a security risk. A window that can't open is a fire egress problem. And in Long Island winters, a window that doesn't close tightly is costing you real money in heat loss every day it goes unrepaired.
At Prestige Window Works, we specialize in window and door mechanism repair throughout Long Island, NY, covering all hardware types across Nassau County and Suffolk County. Our technicians carry an extensive inventory of replacement parts for all major window brands, that's why most repairs are completed on the first visit without waiting for parts to be ordered.
We're one of the few Long Island companies with hands-on expertise in European multipoint locking systems for tilt and turn windows — Winkhaus, Roto, GU, Hoppe, and more. From sash balances on double-hung windows to casement operators, multipoint locks, sliding door rollers, and historic sash cords — we repair every hardware type on every window type.

How Our Mechanism Repair Process Works

Our team specializes in the technical recovery of window hardware, from complex casement operators to heavy-duty sash balances. We use a systematic repair sequence to identify mechanical friction and replace faulty parts, returning full control and security to your home.
Marvin Operator Replacement
Step 1 — Diagnose on-site
We test every aspect of the hardware — not just the part that's visibly failing. A stripped operator often means the window has been forced open against a failing balance for months. We identify the root cause, not just the symptom, and give you a written quote before touching anything.
Step 2 — Source the correct part
We carry an extensive inventory of the most common replacement parts for all major brands. If we have the part on the van, the repair happens the same day. If a specialist part needs to be ordered, we give you a clear timeline — typically 3–5 business days for standard parts.
Step 3 — Replace and calibrate
We install the replacement hardware, then calibrate it — adjusting balance tension, operator engagement, and lock alignment until everything operates as it should. A mechanism that's installed but not calibrated correctly will fail again within months.
Step 4 — Test every function
We test opening, closing, locking, tilting, and every other function the window or door has before we pack up. You test it too before we leave. This ensures that the newly installed hardware meet our strict performance standards and your total satisfaction.
Step 5 — Document what was done
We leave you with a clear record of what was replaced and the warranty terms. Useful for future service calls and for real estate disclosure if you sell the property. You'll get peace of mind by detailing the high-quality components used and the protection coverage.

Window and Door Mechanisms We Repair

Sash Balances — Double-Hung Windows

Spiral balances — a coiled spring inside a tube, common in vinyl windows. When the spring loses tension or breaks, the sash drops. We replace spiral balances in all sizes.

Block and tackle balances — a pulley system used in heavier wood and aluminum sash windows. We repair and replace both the balance unit and the attachment clips.

Constant force balances — a flat coil spring system used in many modern windows. Less common to fail but repairable when they do.

Sash balance issues are especially prevalent in Mineola, Floral Park, and New Hyde Park where large stocks of 1970s–1990s double-hung windows are now experiencing age-related mechanism failures across entire housing developments.

Casement and Awning Window Operators

The operator is the crank hardware that pushes a casement or awning window open and pulls it closed. Operators wear out, strip internally, or corrode — especially on windows exposed to salt air near the coast. When the crank turns but nothing moves, or the window opens but won't retract fully, the operator needs replacement.

We stock operators for all major brands and sizes. This is one of the most straightforward repairs we do — typically 30–45 minutes per window.

Multipoint Locking Systems — Tilt & Turn Windows

Tilt and turn windows use a multipoint locking hardware that engages multiple lock points simultaneously when you turn the handle. These European-style mechanisms are more complex than standard sash hardware and require specialist knowledge to repair correctly. We work with all major multipoint system brands including Winkhaus, Roto, GU (Gretsch-Unitas), Giesse, and Hoppe — the brands most commonly found on tilt and turn windows throughout Long Island's newer construction.

Multipoint lock failures are particularly common in Great Neck and Kings Point, where European-style tilt and turn windows were installed heavily during the 1990s–2000s building boom.

Window Locks and Sash Lifts

Standard sash locks, cam locks, and sweep locks on double-hung, sliding, and single-hung windows wear out over time, get painted over, or simply stop latching securely. A window lock that doesn't engage properly is a security vulnerability — particularly on ground-floor and basement windows. We replace faulty locks with matching hardware and adjust the keeper plate alignment so the lock engages firmly every time.

Hinges — Casement, Awning, and French Doors

Window hinges develop problems in two ways: the hinge itself wears or breaks, or the window frame warps enough that the hinge can no longer hold the sash in proper alignment. We replace damaged hinges and adjust hinge positions to restore correct operation. For French doors with dropped panels causing binding or floor contact, hinge adjustment is almost always the solution before considering any structural work.

Sliding Door Rollers and Tracks

Sliding doors that are hard to move, jump off their track, or drag along the floor have failed rollers — the small wheeled assemblies at the bottom of the door panel that carry its weight. We replace rollers with correctly-rated units for the door weight and adjust the track for level operation. We also clean, straighten, and repair bent or damaged tracks. This service is in constant demand in Woodbury, Syosset, and Jericho where 1980s–1990s homes with original sliding patio doors are experiencing widespread roller failure.

Door Handle and Lock Sets

Exterior door handles, multipoint locks, deadbolts, and patio door locks all develop problems through regular use. If your door handle feels loose, your lock cylinder is sticky, or your multipoint system no longer engages all lock points when you lift the handle, we can diagnose and repair the mechanism on-site. We carry replacement hardware for all common residential door systems.
Window Mechanism Repair for All Major Brands
Our technicians are trained on the specific mechanism designs used by every major window and door manufacturer.

This matters because hardware from one brand often cannot be directly substituted with another — the dimensions, attachment points, and operating tolerances are brand-specific.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

My window opens but won't stay up — what's wrong?
Almost certainly a failed sash balance. The balance system is what holds the sash in position against gravity. When it fails, the sash drops closed under its own weight. This is repairable in a single visit in the vast majority of cases — we replace the balance with a correctly-rated unit for your sash weight and window brand.
My casement window crank turns but the window doesn't move — can this be fixed?
Yes. This is a classic stripped operator — the internal gears have worn out so the crank rotates freely without transmitting any force to the window arm. We replace the operator unit with a correctly-matched replacement. Most casement operator replacements take under an hour.
My tilt and turn window handle is stiff and won't turn to the tilt position — is this a mechanism problem?
Usually yes. Tilt and turn multipoint systems require precise alignment between the handle cam and the locking espagnolette running around the frame. If the window has sagged slightly or the hardware has worn, the handle becomes stiff or locks in one position. We diagnose whether it's an adjustment issue or a part replacement — often it's the former, which is a faster and less expensive fix.
How much does window hardware repair cost in Long Island?
Balance replacements price typically depends on balance type and brand. We provide a written quote on-site before any work begins.
Can you repair mechanisms on all window brands?
Yes. We stock parts for Andersen, Pella, Marvin, and all major brands, and we work with specialist hardware suppliers for European multipoint systems from Winkhaus, Roto, GU, Hoppe, and others. If you have an unusual or older window system, call us — in most cases we can source the correct parts.
My sliding door is hard to open — do the rollers need replacing?
Usually yes, but we check the track condition first. A bent or dirty track can make even good rollers perform poorly. We assess both and give you an honest recommendation. Roller replacement on a standard sliding patio door typically takes 1–2 hours and cost depends on door size and roller type.
